Mooring and Sailboat Regatta Disclaimer
The DCYC maintains two marked moorings in Dead Horse Bay and one in Great Kills. These mooring are intended for members enjoyment and convenience, at their own risk, for short time daytime use on a first come first served basis. Please fly the DCYC burgee when on these moorings. The two in Dead Horse Bay are also used for the National Parks Sailing Program in conjunction with the DCYC. They are also available to reciprocating clubs with the permission of the DCYC Fleet Captain Joe Atkins (718-258-9790). The club pulls the two moorings in Dead Horse Bay each October for routine inspection and maintenance and replaces them in April. We will need a few volunteers to help with this and anyone who would like to help should contact our Fleet Captain. The one in Great Kills is maintained by the Richmond County YC. The Deep Creek Yacht Club and its officers assume no liability in the use of these moorings and boaters should use reasonable safety while on the mooring to ensure the integrity of the buoy and pendants used to secure the boat to the mooring. The boat owner/skipper bears the full responsibility for their boat, crew and guests while secured to the mooring as if they are anchored with their own anchor and must carry full liability insurance. The DCYC does not guarantee or warrant the suitability of the moorings or surrounding waters for any particular purpose. These moorings are not intended to be used in severe weather. Defects or problems with the mooring should be reported immediately to the Fleet Captain.
Although the DCYC sail regattas are boater friendly fun races they do use the US Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing. The sailing committee will advise all participants of these rules prior to racing. The owner/skipper always bears the full responsibility for the conduct, actions, and good behavior of their crew and guests while racing. The Deep Creek Yacht Club is organizing these regattas only on the understanding that they and/or the officers do not assume any liability for injury or damage caused by any competitor, skipper or crew as a result of their taking part in the regatta.
