Animated Figure of Eight

  • Figure 8 knots are used to create a bulge on the bitter end of a line so the line will not "escape" through a rope clutch, pad eye or your hand. The "Stop" knot when finished looks like its name. It is superior to using a Thumb Knot, because it does not jam so easily.

  • Tip: The Figure of Eight is useful to temporarily stop the ends of a rope fraying, before it is whipped.
